How it all began…
A fire pit and swiping right
—
Ian was becoming bored spending his time alone next to his new fire pit. Sarah was becoming bored swiping left past all the losers on OkCupid.
After a couple beers, Ian thought “screw it, I gotta do something” and opened an OkCupid account. He chose this one because it didn’t require a Facebook account (he’d never had a FB account, which turned out to be a red flag). So he started an OkCupid account with a little info and a few random photos of himself he had.
After being frustrated going on random dates with losers (who probably had reptiles at home), Sarah was becoming frustrated with online dating to the point of giving up soon.
But that’s when the algorithms aligned and they both swiped the right way.
So after a few back and forths, Ian went on a family trip to Europe during Christmas and sorta stopped communicating due to lack of cell service. When he got service, he apologized for kind of going dark and saying “sorry, I’ve been traveling abroad” (sounding like a total douche) to which Sarah rolled her eyes and thought about her other options in the app. However, once he got home and she messaged him on New Years Eve, and things were in motion again.
Shortly after, they decided to set up a date after a quick phone call where they got along swimmingly. They decided to meet at the Lost Abbey tasting room in Cardiff and have a beer (Sarah didn’t like beer at the time, but she’s accommodating so she went). Once there, they had a couple of beers (one that Ian chose and Sarah hated) and decided to go to the next spot. Wine Steals had just closed, so they went to the Italian restaurant next door to share a charcuterie board and some wine. As the date was winding down, and they were on their way out, Ian said “I have a pretty nice new fire pit if you want to have a little wine next to it” to which Sarah said "Yes!” They didn’t spend much time apart after that.
As they started dating, the ritual of wine and charcuterie boards next to the fire pit became a regular occurrence. Sitting around and finding out about each other, listening to music, having wine and filling up on cured meats and cheeses was the best way to end the week and passing the nights.
Ever since then, it’s been an adventure to say the least. Traveling to wineries throughout California, taking adventures in San Diego, being quarantined just after moving in together, cooking incredible dinners together, having cocktail making contests, raising their little Buster, their love of cooking, music, travel, family and dogs has gotten them to this point where they’re ready to make it official that they’ll spend the rest of their lives next to fire pits together.
